Gilded Silver Hazel Leaf Tile

Hazel Leaf, gilded in silver coloured metal.

Handmade botanical tile, made using a hazel leaf from Roslin Glen, stoneware clay and aluminium leaf. Because real silver leaf tarnishes, I use aluminium leaf for my silver gilding, to reduce the amount of tarnishing over time.

Tile comes with a top wire hanger for hanging on the wall and is unglazed. Tile is 10 x 10 x 0.5cm.

This is a handmade item. Each piece is a labour of craftsmanship and love, each is slightly different to any other piece and all will contain small imperfections, as is normal with any handmade craft.

I use stoneware clay and the items are generally pretty tough. All will break if you drop them onto a hard surface. If you want to preserve the life of your item, treat it with tender loving care.

Process: I make each item myself out of wet clay. I either turn it on the wheel, or hand build it.When the clay is slightly dry, I trim it, then it dries out ready for its first firing – the bisque firing to approx. 1000C. After that has cooled, I sand and wash the pieces, then glaze and decorate them carefully, which takes forever. Then they go back in the kiln to approx. 1200C. Once they have cooled, I sand them, wipe them down and photograph and measure the piece. Then I load it up on Instagram or the website shop.

Returns and breakages: I wrap and package everything super carefully, but accidents do happen and if your item arrives broken, please photograph it with its packaging from a few angles, and contact me immediately, this allows me to take up a claim with the Post Office. If you think your item has a major defect and is unusable, please take photographs and contact me as soon as possible after it arrives.
